Early Career Archaeologists

Florian Helmecke

Co-Chairperson

I am a German archaeologist specialised in the study of funerary customs of late prehistoric communities in Europe. Having studied in Germany, Scotland and the Netherlands, I not only experienced many different ways of doing archaeology but also was able to establish valuable connections with fellow (early career) archaeologists across Europe. To me, these experiences highlighted the importance of professional networks ─ an insight that led me to join the ECA community, where I now support others in building their own.

Currently, I am a PhD candidate at the Faculty of Archaeology, Leiden University (Netherlands), where I conduct my research within the NWO-funded VIDI project “The Talking Dead – Reconstructing the transmission of information in Corded Ware and Bell Beaker Societies during the 3rd Millennium BC”.

As co-chairperson of the ECA Community, I am responsible for organizing events and attracting new members to foster collaboration and support within our network.
